So the circle is complete!
Tripwire Interactive the once winners of the $1,000,000 make something unreal contest have announced that they are to publish the latest winner of the competition. The game simply called 'The Ball' and is a mix of puzzler and fps with the player taking on a multitude of enemies of multiple levels.
This is what TWI had to say:
| Tripwire Interactive is delighted to announce that it will be publishing Teotl Studios’ first person puzzle-adventure game, The Ball, through Steam and in stores world-wide. The Ball won multiple top prizes in Epic’s latest “Make Something Unreal” contest and is now following in the footsteps of Tripwire’s own Red Orchestra in making the leap from mod to full commercial release. Providing an experience far beyond what the mod offered the commercial release of the ball is highly enhanced and expanded featuring a full 6 hours of single-player gameplay. "Tripwire Interactive is a perfect match for us" says Sjoerd De Jong, founder of Teotl Studios. "We are thrilled to work with them and are confident this deal will help us maximize the potential of our game." “When we first tried The Ball we knew this was exactly the type of game we would like to publish – fun, creative and a blast to play” said John Gibson, President of Tripwire Interactive. “This is all the more exciting for us as the winner of the previous ‘Make Something Unreal’ contest to have the opportunity to help a winner from the latest MSU contest take their game commercial.” About the game: The Ball is a first person action-adventure game featuring a full single-player experience built on Epic’s Unreal™ Engine 3 technology. As a swashbuckling archaeologist working on the slopes of a dormant volcano somewhere in Mexico, you get stuck in a cavern. It doesn’t take long before you realize this is more than just a cave. You reveal ancient ruins that have been hidden from outsiders for centuries and discover a mysterious artifact, a gold and metal shelled Ball. As you progress towards solving the mystery of this amazing place you must unlock the secrets of The Ball and learn to control this ancient artifact. You will also start to encounter not just puzzles and traps, but also various strange creatures – the guardians of this mystery. These creatures also have to be overcome, using only The Ball to defend you. Venturing deeper into the volcano, you reveal some of mankind’s greatest secrets… Key features: • Six hours of single-player adventure • Game mechanics that are very simple to pick up, immersing the user in the physics-based gameplay right from the start • 8 huge levels to explore • Includes bonus Survival game mode, with 3 additional levels • Wide range of enemies to overcome, including mummies, an undead gorilla and boss characters • Unique vehicles – an underground train and the mysterious “Ball Chariot” • More than 30 secrets hidden away to be discovered, as well as multiple achievements for the player to earn • Steamworks™ features including achievements and leaderboards The game will be available on Steam and in stores from Fall 2010. For further information on the game, visit the game website: www.theballthegame.com/. |

This week Tripwire Interactive, the team behind Red Orchestra, have officially announced Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad. The long awaited sequel will be using Unreal Engine 3, the engine behind BIA: Hells Highway and Unreal Tournament 3, and will be released on PC in 2010 (estimated by pcgamer magazine).
Early details are sketchy but here are some confirmed features so far.
A singleplayer campaign focusing on the battle for stalingrad (durrr ), can be played from both Russian and Axis POV
A new coop gameplay which features teams of players taking on squad AI in a no respawn round based mode.
A more typical RO gameplay mode (probably a variation on the current format).
A screenshot features "mantaling" in some shape or form.
A first person cover system, think Gears of War and BIA:HH but with no magical 3rd person camera.
More details and some screen grabs can be found in the June edition of PC gamer (UK and US).
An official statement from Wilsonman of TWI launched the official website
| Roswell, GA. 4th May 2009: Tripwire Interactive is pleased to announce Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, the sequel to the hit PC title Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, winner of multiple awards: Voodoo Extreme’s FPS and MP Game of the Year 2006, Wargamer’s Best Action Game 2006, IGN Editor’s Choice and many more. Heroes of Stalingrad will take the Red Orchestra franchise into the next generation of gaming. Cutting edge graphics and audio built on Unreal Engine 3, inventive features and streamlined realism will deliver an unrivalled WWII experience. Focusing on the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Russian, from July 1942 to February 1943 the game allows the player to experience one of the most brutal battles in all of human history. For the first time ever in a first person shooter gamers will be able to experience WWII from the Axis side in a German single player campaign. As always with the Red Orchestra franchise, we will aim to deliver unrivalled accuracy and attention to detail, along with gritty, vicious combat in multi-player, co-op and solo modes. Again, we have listened to the fans and have designed a whole set of new features to make the game more accessible and easy to get into – all while delivering the tactical shooter realism fans of the original game loved. There is more information available in the June 2009 issue of PC Gamer both in the UK and US, which will be on the news stands in May. The Heroes of Stalingrad forums are also now open – head to www.heroesofstalingrad.com for the teaser website and access to the forums. We will be releasing more information about the game over the next weeks and months, so keep checking back! Tripwire Interactive are taking the time to get the game right, so the release date will remain “when it is ready” for the time being. |
So head over to www.heroesofstalingrad.com for the teaser site and link to the forums with all the rumour mill in full swing.
I'll keep you posted as more is announced!

New search powers lead Firefox 3 ~ The latest version of web browser Firefox will make changes to the way people search for information online, says its developer.
Mozilla has told the BBC's World Service that the new browser has been designed around the importance of search to users.
Firefox 3, currently going through its third stage of beta testing, will offer a combined search and bookmark tool via the url bar.
It will also allow offline working. Chairman of the Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker told BBC World Service's Digital Planet programme:
"It's clear that when people are looking for information on the web, search is the number one activity," she said.
"We've devised ways to bring that power into areas that are closer to your individual life."

| CoD4 Multiplayer Exploit "fixed" |
|

10th June 2008, 10:35
Since the release of the 1.6 patch a few days ago it has become apparent that there is a bug within the multiplayer side of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, meaning that for those using the bug an array of cheats is available for use on any server, which cannot be turned off unless switched off by the user himself.
With the command being almost untraceable by punkbuster and most third party programs, the heads of the community looked towards Infinity Ward for the answer.
Fortunatly we were given this answer merely moments after our original inquiry:
{PST}*Joker - Global Moderator at IW
Thanks to a few users on this:
A few community members have recently discovered a new CoD4 exploit, this exploit works on all previous patches of the game... this will need to be fixed for patch 1.7.
What does the exploit do?
Basically allows players to turn sv_cheats on, it will be set on for them only, but then they can use any cheat protected dvar.
The only way to prevent this is by adding this line to your pb server config file: (pbsv.cfg found in CoD4/pb folder)
Code:
pb_sv_cvar sv_cheats IN 0 Then restart your server, and you would be protected from this exploit.
I won't post how to do the exploit, because there are SO MANY servers that this exploit will work on, and having sv_cheats set to 0 in your server config does NOT prevent it, it needs to be in your PB config.
