My current rig is a little dated now, but its held up pretty well! I would normally just ask sprad but i thought if i posted it here then he would reply anyway and also others who knew what they were on about might help to as i have completely fallen out of touch having not changed my rig for years!
I have a budget of about £700 with a bit of flexibility. I dont need a monitor/kb/mouse/speakers/headset or any of that misc stuff i just need a pure power tower for busting out games. My current setup is a dual screen setup with my main monitor in 1920x1200 so the gfx card needs to be able to handle the games in that (but my current nvidia 8800 manages that )
Im after something with some expansion options and i would be half tempted to have the option to stick water cooling in at a later date (when i get my bonus from work )
Finally (and yes sprad you might have to read this bit twice) but im also after a copy of windows 7.

I will jump in first, however i am using a shitty GPRS USB modem so i cannot pick out specific parts from Scan.co.uk, but your looking for the following:
Radeon 5870 - Best value high end card.
Intel Core i5 or lower end i7 on a P55 platform.
4 GB DDR1333 RAM
550W+ Antec Modular PSU
Mid tower case from Coolermaster
Should be able to fit into a £700 budget.

ATI 5870 is a must buy for high res gaming (5850 isn't bad as a cheaper option)
Core i5 750 is the best buy on the processor market in my opinion
Gigabyte P55 chipset motherboard - UD3 is good value for money and has most features you might want (keep an eye out for sata 6gbs and usb3 if you want it for a long time).
4gb of DDR3 of 1333mhz should be fine unless you really need to overclock a lot.
Samsung spinpoint f3 1tb - pretty much the fastest large capactiy hdd for hardly any money
Corsair-H50 for a cheap (£60) water cooling option. I am running one and its quiet and keeps the temp low even with my overclock.
Suitable mid tower case (i've got a spare lian li if your interested)

So is this something like we are talking about then?
Sprad i may be interested in that case, do you have a link to which model it is? I presume it was the one i have seen at yours before you moved up north.
Also with that basket i would be half tempted to ditch the cooling for the motherboard with better life span (usb 3.0 etc) - does that sound like a better idea? That way i can always pick up the water cooling if i am feeling brave at some other point a bit later on.

thats pretty much spot on fatty. I would go with the UD3R www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-GA-P55A-UD3R-Intel-P55-Express-S1156-PCI-E-20-DDR3-2200-SATA-6Gb-s-SATA-RAID-ATX
Thats really well featured for the money (The normal UD3 is also good for a bit less)
The corsair H50 is no harder to fit than any large cpu cooler and is completely sealed so no leakage/refilling issues.
www.dansdata.com/llpc6070.htm
Thats the case but in black, i have got both a window panel and plain panel for it. Also I have fitted white led fans but have the originals too. The only thing is it only has a side 120mm fan for that corsair h50 (hence i bought a new case) but is a good alrounder. Yours for a small fee.
Let me know if you want it and ill bring it down when im back in july.

Ok, ive fiddled about with it and now its just shy of £800 but ive got the h50 cooling unit and the better P55 motherboard. This might seem like a stupid question, but is there any reason why i couldnt stick an adapter on the rear fan space of the case to accomodate the 120mm fan for the h50?

technically you could but it would be really cramped for space and probably bash the performance.
what case you using atm?

I would exchage the three fans for silent ones, example.
If you have the benefit of water cooling, no point in spoiling the silence.
No optical drives?
Looks good, will be a beast when running !

Ah yes, i should have mentioned that - i shall be stealing my current cd/dvd rw from my current machine since its sata, it still works and its the colour i want.
Good point about the fans though, i will be chucking them onto a fan controller anyway but it makes sense to go for a quiet option if im chucking some money at water cooling. I am tempted to bash one of these Fan controllers in there, as they look swish. I was originally going to stick them on my old fan controller but im not sure now. Either way aesthetics are less important than the beasty power im hoping to get

Fan controlletrs are fine, but almost useless. All fans should be left full on, if quiet enough or indeed make so.
That said, it is nice to have some control and if you want to adjus the speeds, then I would suggest you include other functions that you would probably utilise more frequently.
Media Input and Fan thingy
About the same cost, far more usability.

Sprad made a very valid point - my processor has apparently jumped outta my basket on this build. Schoolboy - anyway my '£700' pc is now looking like a £1000 machine - typical!
